Day 5 & 6... Strasbourg and Alsacian Villages

Sunday it was a pretty relaxing day. It was about 95 degrees so it was a good day to just walk the streets of Strasbourg and relax. While walking through town we came upon a few different shows! It was Sunday so that is when the street performers come out... It was pretty neat to watch music and dancing, children on the carousel, an opera singer (which sang the song from Mr. Bean's Holiday!), celloists, and people who sketched on the spot! . We also went into the Cathedral and saw the beautiful stained glass and architecture while listening to a Bach piece being played on the organ.  We ended the evening with a boat ride down the river then went to dinner and dessert at a couple little cafes.

Pictures from our boat ride...it was getting dark as we ended.

Monday was a traveling day! We left Strasbourg to head for Colmar. On the way to Colmar we took the scenic route and drove through about 10 different Alsacian villages. They were all so gorgeous! A lot of them were surrounded by vineyards... Then when leaving one to go to the next, the road would usually go up hill and we would have a wonderful view of the town we had just drove through. It was so neat to see each village like that! To see all the houses in their own style, a church steeple, and each building topped with a red brick roof amongst the vineyard, was so amazing and just like you would imagine life many many years ago. Behind on a hill of most villages was a couple castles, or ruins of castles... they were probably there to protect the village from any enemies or danger coming to the village!

we would stop by the side of the road as soon as we had a beautiful view and take video and pictures.

Here's what alot of the icecream shops look like. They all have these big ice cream cone structures.

After going through most towns we came to Koeningsburg, where there sat a large castle! Ver and I toured it. It had a gorgeous view down to the villages and vineyards. Each room in the castle was so unique in its furnishings and wood work that it was so intriguing. There was a room full of weapons and armor, which Im sure any little boy would love to see!

Now we are staying at a bed and breakfast in Colmar.  The women who keeps this bed and breakfast is an American but she married a French man and they now live here, so it is very nice to talk to someone who speaks English fluently!
