Gevrey Chambertin & Vineyards....Days 9 & 10

Our next stop was Gevrey Chambertin which is a small village in heart of the Burgundy region. Gevery along with a few other villages are where some of the best wines of Burgundy come from.  We arrived in the evening so we first went  for a walk through the streets and around some vineyards. Its such a peaceful little village.

Then we went to dinner at an excellent restaurant called Chez Guy.  The food was delicious, the service was excellent. One of our waiters is a wine connoisseur. He taught us about the different levels of wine and helped us select a white and a red wine for the evening. They were the best wines I have ever tasted! After dinner he took us to the restaurants little cellar where we could see some excellent wines they had to sell and taught us more about wine. It was such a delightful evening. Oh and just so you get an idea…here in France dinner starts at the earliest 7 and the time between getting your food is much longer and so we were at dinner from 7:30- 10:30…that is a normal French dinner outing.

My meal was beef cheeks...very tender and very good!

Chocolate lava cake with mango sorbet and coconut milk!

The way the French serve coffee here is just one or two straight shots of espresso with one packet of sugar. It was pretty good but ill definitely be ready to get back to my regular coffee.

Our waiter explains about the wine. My grandma wanted to take lots of pictures at dinner so this is one of hers!

The next day we joined Alan and Judy, they are a couple of my grandma’s friends and went through Brugundy. Alan studied about wine here in Burgundy so we were with him the whole day and learned so much about wine. I don’t have time to write all, but let’s just say it was very enlightening and we have learned so much! It makes me appreciate wine more and want to try it more.

Anyways, he took us to a vineyard where we were able to taste about 5 different wines. The lady who did the tasting with us wanted to make it a special time for us because she liked that young people were interested in learning about her wines so she brought out one of her Grand Cru wines from the year 1990…the year we were born.. She said 1990 was a really good year for them…the wine was really good! It was so fun doing the tasting and seeing how each wine compared. This vineyard doesn’t sell to the USA because they are a small winery that already has many clients in France, so we of course had to buy her best wine to take home. I can’t wait to share it!

Katherine the owner of this winery opened a special bottle for us from 1990...the year we were born.

We went to see the Romanee Conti Vineyards but as soon as we got there it started pouring rain so here's us taking pictures in the rain...we were soaked after a minute!

Later we went to dinner with everyone at a gorgeous little restaurant that overlooked vineyards. The food was excellent again! I love trying all these restaurants and trying food I would probably never normally try at home.
 View from the restaurant!

 Dessert!
